Ladera 16, Culver City National 2
The ping of the aluminum Demarinis and the crack of composite Combats filled the air Monday evening as the Ladera Allstars struck for 16 runs on 15 hits to stay alive in the Loser's Bracket with a 16-2 victory over Culver City National.
The offensive attack for Ladera was punctuated by a 3 run line drive home run by Lawrence Gilliam in the top of the first, and a lead off towering shot to left field by birthday boy, Jibri Walden. The home runs were career firsts for Lawrence and Jibri.
Every Ladera runner reached base and all but one scored. Clean up batter Lawrence Gilliam (.648 BA) was 2-4 and contributed 4 RBIs. Jibri Walden, who leads the team in batting and On Base Percentage (.692 BA, .733 OBP), was 3-4 and scored 3 runs. Darien Geyen was 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Grant Craddolph was 2-3 and scored 2 runs. Leadoff man, Jordan Crisp was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and scored 3 runs. Elijah Hodge and Robert Togia contributed 2 runs a piece with Elijah striking for his second double of the tournament. Kaelin Woodard and Valance Sams contributed a hit and a run a piece, and Malik Cole contributed an RBI.
With pitch count becoming an increasingly important factor, Ladera sent 4 pitchers to the mound. Robert was solid in his second start of the tournament and earned the win. Jordan, Elijah and Lawrence followed in relief.
Defensively, Ladera was led by Grant at shortstop and Darrien who turned in great plays at second and in left field. Malik came up big in right field again handling a tricky fly ball.
With the win, Ladera advances to the final game of the Loser's bracket and will face Malibu in a revenge match tonight (Tue) at 6:30.
